Nine in Ten Councils Now Collect Cartons at the Kerbside After First Three Months of Simpler Recycling Reforms
New figures reveal that nearly 90% (89.2%*) of local authorities are now accepting liquid cartons as part of their kerbside recycling collections, just three months after the introduction of Simpler Recycling reforms.
The significant increase in carton collection coverage demonstrates the early success of the government’s drive to create a more consistent and accessible recycling system for households across England. Millions of households now have access to convenient recycling services for items such as milk, juice, soup and plant-based drink cartons.
Mandy Kelly, CEO of ACE UK, the industry body representing manufacturers of liquid cartons for the UK and Europe said: ” Reaching nearly 90% kerbside coverage is a significant achievement, and a strong footing to build on as the remaining authorities move toward citizen-friendly collection systems. It demonstrates the positive momentum behind creating a more consistent recycling system and makes it easier for households to recycle cartons as part of their everyday routine.”
Under Simpler Recycling, local authorities and waste management providers are working to standardise recycling collections, making it easier for residents to understand what can and cannot be recycled.
